The idea
A metrics program along with an automated metrics dashboard tool can ensure continuous improvement in software development through a number of project tracking mechanisms.
 
The client

A Fortune 500 company, the client is the world leader in product development.

 
The business challenge
The client was looking for continuous improvement in its software application development through a division-wide metrics program to improve the performance of the five Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - quality, productivity, schedule, effort and cost. The metrics program would also lead to a standard metrics definition in the division and also enable projects to identify the right type of metrics.
 
The solution
The Wipro team analyzed the existing metrics setup and practices. A division-wide metrics program was defined which detailed the metrics policy, goals of metrics, metrics collection, analysis, reporting and information on decisions and feedback for process improvement. New metrics were identified and defined, which were mapped to the identified KPIs and were also in line with practices suggested by international frameworks like PSP, TSP, and Agile Methodologies. An XLS-based, automated metrics dashboard facilitating data collection, consolidation, reporting and metrics analysis for all projects was also developed for the client.
